A New Series from Otter Creek!
We rolled out our new Imperial series January '09, starting with our Russian Imperial Stout. This beer has received great reviews on RateBeer.com and BeerAdvocate. Next we released our Imperial India Pale Ale May 1, 2009.
Our third Imperial will be available following the release party Friday, October 30, 2009.
These larger-than-life beers are sold in 22 oz bottles and on draft. Brewed with more malts and more hops, these beers are big, bold, flavorful, and high-octane.
Coming to stores in November: our Otter's Selection Gift pack- a tall black box containing three 22-oz bottles and a glass to drink them with. This year's gift pack will feature all three Otter Creek Imperial ales: Russian Imperial Stout, Imperial India Pale Ale, and the new Q.V.H.. A very nice gift for any beer lover!
Otter Creek Imperial Series Goblets available through our brewhouse store or our e-store.
About Quercus Vitis Humulus: QVH is our brewers' tribute to the mighty oak, luscious grape, and humble hop. The homage begins with a bold 27 degree plato barley-wine, warm-fermented with Bohemian lager yeast, then blended with Sauvignon Blanc grape juice and fermented a second time with a pure culture of Champagne yeast. When this intricate brew was complete, our brewers aged it on lightly toasted French Oak. The six week journey through our brewery results in a deeply complex ale which clocks in at 12% ABV, with 38 IBU.
Malts: 2-row, Wheat, Vienna, Crystal, Munich, Aromatic Hops: UK Goldings, Strisselspalt
About our Imperial India Pale Ale: Originally brewed for thirsty British troops stationed on the subcontinent of India, India Pale Ales had to withstand the sea voyage around Africa. Brewers need to take full advantage of two preservatives at the time: hops and alcohol. They increased their hopping rates, doubled their malt useage to increase alcohol content, and dry-hopped the brew before it set out on its voyage. Our Imperial IPA carries on this tradition- and then some! The fruity and citrusy hop aroma intermingles perfectly with an assertive malty backbone. Our brewers added a generous supply of hops to this brew throughout the entire process to provide an enormous hop flavor and balance the elevated alcohol content.
This beer is 11% alcohol by volume, and 135 IBU!
Malts: 2-row, Munich, Carapils, Caramel 60L, Caramel 20L, Wheat Hops: Bravo, Amarillo, Apollo, Simcoe
About our Russian Imperial Stout: The style was first brewed in England for the Russian Czar and it is the king of stouts. Plenty of big malt flavors- chocolate and roasted- and high alcohol with lower carbonation and mild hops. We brewed this beer with double the malts and four times the hops of regular stouts!
Otter Creek Russian Imperial Stout clocks in around 10% ABV- a beer to be savored responsibly. True to style, this beer will last for years so you may want to stock up on a few bottles for your cellar while it's available.
Russian Imperial Stouts pair well with creamy cheeses such as camembert (we recommend Vermont-made!), decadent chocolate desserts, or a hearty meal.
Malts: 2-row, Munich, Extra Special Caramel Malt, Chocolate Malt, Dehusked Roasted Barley Hops: Magnum, Willamette Soft Brown Sugar
